Do you feel time slipping through your fingers?

As a mother, I know this feeling all too well. Not a day goes by that I don’t notice how big my boys are growing. Yet, it feels like just yesterday that they were learning to walk. I am so grateful for the countless albums of photos I took when they were young… they are my memory keepers.

Leave a legacy

These days we are constantly taking pictures with our smart phones and maybe posting a few on social media, but there is no physical evidence of our families anymore. The days of baby books and family photo albums seem to be a thing of the past. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Let’s print our photos (even if they are crappy phone pics). Let’s display our family images around the house and not just on Facebook. Let’s create a legacy for our children to enjoy for years to come! What I bring to your photography session is a comfortable, caring experience that will enable you and your family to create fun, lasting memories. From those moments, we’ll work together to create the perfect custom artwork for your home.

Faq's

My office is located in the historic Old Central School in Grand Rapids, MN.

It’s no secret that professional photography services cost more than high-volume photography studios and there’s good reason for it. Custom photography is definitely an investment for both the clients and the photographer. The amount of personalized focus and commitment to capturing the perfect photographs are unmatched with custom photography. As is the extensive training and ongoing education that professional photographers undergo to keep on top of trends in both technique and equipment.

If you’d like to learn more about the difference between high-volume studios and a completely custom, boutique-style studio like Janna Salmela Photography, please check out these excerpts and the full articles below:

Professional Child Photography

…being in demand, being well known for quality work, having a good reputation often costs time on the photographer’s part (years of practice, study, experience, etc).  A photographer’s expertise comes at a cost, their time learning their craft and learning the intricacies of lighting and the commitment put forth on their end to create a persona about their business that oozes professionalism.

When you hire a photographer of sound reputation, you are hiring an expert, one that knows that they must always reinvest in their business to create the reputation of being top notch.

Jenika’s Lens

A professional photographer has spent exhaustive amounts of time and money developing expertise that directly benefits YOU.

Some things can only be learned by working with scores of adults and children and shooting tens of thousands of photographs. When they don’t have active clients, they invent their own projects and keep practicing their craft. The more shoots a photographer has under their belt, the more able they are to “see” the best images and set about creating them. They can quickly recognize flattering light and use their camera to make it sing.

They know how to set people at ease, especially those who don’t like having their picture taken. They see your best qualities and bring them out. It’s their job to think about how you look, so that all you have to do is think about how much you love the people you’re with.

Every family I photograph is different. They like to do different things and they want to use their images in ways that work for them. This is why I have all my clients meet me for a FREE pre-consultation where I can ask questions and we can plan the perfect session together. We also look at the different product options and talk about where and how to display their artwork. I keep all of this in mind during the session and while taking the photographs.

I have two different session fees for families (these apply to immediate family members only. Inquire for extended family sessions). Weekday sessions are $125 plus tax and Saturday/Sunday sessions are $150 plus tax. Wall Portraits and image products are purchased after the session at the Premiere. Clients typically spend between $900-$2000 for their whole experience and artwork.

Approximately 2-3 weeks after the session, I will host you and your family at my office for your premiere. This is a red carpet event where you’ll enjoy a treat and watch a slideshow of your images. Then I will help you through the process of ordering the products that work best for your family.

Family sessions are usually 1 hour but I don’t put a hard limit on them. I only schedule one session per day so we can take as little or as long as you’d like.

I want you to truly enjoy our time together without feeling rushed. The difference in expressions between the beginning and end of the session is remarkable! I find that when people have time to settle into the session and get accustomed to me and my camera, we’re able to get genuine smiles and natural family interactions.

Some of my collections include digital files with a print release, which allows you to print for personal use. I also include a PDF with tips for printing and some recommended photo labs. Contact me to find out more. (218) 259-2765 or janna.salmela@gmail.com

Yes! Twice a year I offer mini session dates. They are set up in a predetermined location and are usually 20 minutes. Sign up for my newsletter and follow me on social media so you won’t miss out!

This is my most frequently asked question! Read my blog post HERE for helpful tips. Another beneficial blog post is “Preparing for your session.”

Of course! But first I like to ask questions about activities you do as a family, local places you like to visit, and the style of your home or room the images will be displayed. It is important that the style and colors go with the decor of your home. My studio is also a great option for your family session!

A light retouching is included for preliminary proofs. A full edit is done on all photographs ordered.

I do not charge a travel fee if your location is within 10 miles of Grand Rapids, MN.
Are you outside of this radius? No problem! Contact me for any travel inquiries.

I accept all major credit cards, cash, or check. I also offer payment plans. Feel free to call or email me with any questions. (218) 259-2765 or janna.salmela@gmail.com
